Belhaven Brewery | Craft Pilsner

From a 330ml bottle served straight from the fridge at 7 degrees Celsius into a white wine glass. Best before date: Jun/2018.

Appearance

The beer pours a brilliant deep gold/light amber with 1cm of bubbly, white head that dissipates into a partial film in 1+ minutes. Great lacing and poor retention. Stunning clarity. I wish the head had more retention.

Aroma

Medium-light and leaning towards sweet. Grainy-sweet with a faint sulfur note. Toasted, crackery pale malts and honey as well as herbal (grassy) and floral hops. Clean and approachable.

Flavour

Follows the nose with moderate intensity and sweet-ish balance. The taste starts off with floral, herbal hops that make way for a crackery pale malt. Slight adjunct quality with some honey and low bitterness. The finish is of moderate length and faint intensity with decent balance. Lingering maltiness on the palate.

Mouthfeel

Medium body with lively carbonation. Crisp and prickly with a dry-ish finish. No astringency or apparent alcohol character.

Overall

Belhaven's Craft Pilsner is clean, crisp, and refreshing – just like the label reads. The beer has no apparent flaws and is highly drinkable. Worth a try if you like the style.
